“Playing a game means making choices and taking actions. All of this activity occurs within a game system designed to support meaningful kinds of choice making.”
Salen & Zimmerman - Rules of Play

Since 2019 I have been working at Free Radical Design on their unreleased TimeSplitters game as a Technical Designer.
As the first designer to join the project it was my responsibility to become a universal designer, as all design jobs became mine. This means I have hands-on experience with all design fields; Level, combat, 3Cs, etc… and I am so grateful for this opportunity as it has helped me become a more well-rounded designer than I otherwise would have become.
Due to be being the only designer for the first 2-years of the projects lifetime, this means I had to establish all the best practices, take ownership of almost every non-code system, and on-board the new designers when we finally expanded the design team.
I will admit that learning to let go of the systems I had been shepherding for so long when the team did expand did not come easily to me, but over time I learnt to trust in the design team that we had built and was able to relinquish ownership so that I could focus on Technical Design specifically.
While focusing on Technical Design, it has become my responsibility to create the tools needed for the rest of the design team and help them to prototype their blueprints. I have also spent some time upskilling myself outside of Unreal Engine 5 by learning Python. This has enabled me to write Python scripts that can be called within Unreal to further my Tech Design capabilities.

The work I have done during this period is currently under NDA and is not avaliable to be shown here.
