“Playing a game means making choices and taking actions. All of this activity occurs within a game system designed to support meaningful kinds of choice making.”
Salen & Zimmerman - Rules of Play

Briar & Bramble is a Table-Top Roleplaying Game set at the start of the 20th century in the english countryside. Humans have begun to expand into what was once peaceful woodlands; chopping down trees, filling in ponds, and redirecting rivers all for the sake of industry. It is this destruction that has forced a small Community of woodland creatures to band together despite their differences so they may traverse the countryside and find themselves a new home, safe from the dangers of man.
In Briar & Bramble, players take the role of these woodland creatures as valuable members of The Community they have found themselves in. Together they will overcome obstacles such as…

-
Traveling between dangerous environments.
-
Negotiating between other animal Communities you encounter.
-
Avoiding humans.
-
External predator threats like wolves, hawks, and snakes.
-
Internal Community conflicts.
-
Environmental hazards like crossing a river or passing through Human lands.
-
Keeping their Community together and safe.
-
Foraging for food.
-
Finding shelter.
Briar & Bramble is a game about Community and Survival. Only by working together can these wayward souls hope to find somewhere safe to call home, lest they fall victim to the cruelties of nature.

The key thematic inspirations for Briar & Bramble are darker tales of animals such as The Animals of Farthing Wood by Colin Dann and Watership Down by Richard Adams.

The game released for free on itch.io on Wednesday 20th of April 2021 and ran a successful Kickstarter for artwork and printed physical copies between September 1st and October 1st 2021
